Macbook help with garageband?

when i'm recording tracks on garageband & listen back to them, i always notice a really loud crackling/popping noise. it's really odd & i don't know how to get rid of it! i've googled the problem & nobody can seem to get rid of it. i'm a bit of a mac noob, so be simple in the answers! thanks x
